What Financial Actions Are Available for My Account?

Connecting an account gives Finn information to help you understand your finances. It does not mean every financial action is available through that account. Finn checks the specific account and requested action before it presents an option to move forward.

Availability is specific to the action

Whether an action is available can depend on the connected institution, account type, asset, order type, and the action itself. An account might support analysis but not a buy, sell, deposit, withdrawal, or a particular type of order. Finn should not infer availability just from the account’s name or category.

How Finn works

How Finn checks an action

  1. 01

    Identify the requested action

Finn starts with what you want to do, such as reviewing a potential investment move or moving money.

  2. 02

    Check eligible accounts

It checks which connected accounts currently support that action and any relevant asset or order constraints.

  3. 03

Ask when the choice is yours

If more than one account is eligible, Finn should show the choices rather than silently select one for you.

  4. 04

    Show the action for approval

Only after the appropriate account and action details are confirmed does Finn present an available action for your review.

When an action is not available

Finn can still help you understand the next best step and complete it at the institution you already use. A lack of action availability does not make the connected account less useful for advice, monitoring, or portfolio analysis.

Common questions

Can Finn place a trade in every brokerage account I connect?
No. Finn checks the specific institution, account, asset, order type, and requested action before it presents an available action.
Why does Finn ask me which account to use?
The account is your choice. When more than one connected account may support an action, Finn should let you choose rather than assume a destination.
Does a connected account give Finn blanket authority?
No. A connection does not give Finn blanket permission to move money or place trades.
What kinds of details can affect action availability?
Availability can vary by institution, account type, instrument type, asset class, order type, and explicit account or asset restrictions.
Can an account support one action but not another?
Yes. For example, an account may be useful for analysis yet not support a particular buy, sell, transfer, or order type through Finn.
Does Finn check how much I can act on as well as whether I can act?
For an available action, Finn can check relevant action details such as current constraints, buying power, or other account-specific limits before it is presented for review.
What happens if no connected account supports the action I want?
Finn can still explain the next step and help you complete it directly at the institution you already use.
